What is the Rating of a valve?

It corresponds to the different pressure / temperature combinations at which a valve can be used. Different types of ratings can be defined, namely:

▪ Maximum working pressure at room temperature (Cold Working Pressure – CWP Rating):
It is the maximum allowed working pressure at room temperature, normally from -20 to 100 ° F.

▪ Pressure Rating:
These are the different maximum pressures allowed at different temperatures, between the minimum and maximum allowed. It is usually given in the form of tables, graphs or pressure reduction coefficients as a function of service temperature. The valve body temperature is assumed to be the same as the system fluid temperature.

▪ Temperature Rating:
The maximum and minimum temperature between which the valve can be used.

▪ WOG (Water – Oil – Gas):
It is a rating designation generally used for small low rating valves. Indicates maximum operating pressure in PSI at room temperature, up to 100 ° F.
